MARTIN MARGIELA

2021.10.20

Text by MUSE Team

From 20th of October to the 2nd of January, Martin Margiela is showing his first solo exhibition as an artist at Galerie Lafayette Anticipations in the Marais of Paris.

He constantly pushes us to question our view of the world. The passage of time, chance, the secret, are themes that nourish his work and and renew our perspectives. Against the current of dominant values, Martin Margiela and his work cultivate mystery, an obsession with disappearance, discreet beings, neglected objects, unnoticed places and events. He elevates them to a new dignity.

– Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel, Director of Lafayette Anticipations and curator of the exhibition.

The exhibition includes more than 40 works that Margiela has worked on in the years since his departure from the fashion industry. A series of installations, sculptures, collages, paintings and films designed in a background setting as whole total artwork that express the concept of constant transformation. Even as an artist, Margiela continues to value the shape of the human’s anatomy, the absence of time passing, and disappearance. These themes make the exhibition a search for existence, which never sees a real beginning or end of objects and bodies, dictating the importance of the incomplete as a need to transform.
