TALES & TELLERS

2024.10.16

Text by Lucrezia Sgualdino

An immersive, site-specific art project conceived by Miu Miu, official partner of the Art Basel Paris Public Program. A female gaze through women who tell women.

Miu Miu. Tales & Tellers

Palais D’Iéna, Paris

From October 16th until October 20th, 2024

Miu Miu has always explored the femininity of a woman who grows and adapts to the spirit of the times. A woman who is young, cool, feminine. Interested in art and cinema. In search of stimuli and attentive to everything that happens around her. A continuous, poetic, political and imaginative process. The special project Tales & Tellers conceived by interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga and curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, director of MACBA, Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.

The broader Women’s Tales project gives space to different narratives and perspectives, to a myriad of stories that have enabled women to assert their voice and position in modern society and culture. These tales explore women’s lives in the round, extolling their qualities and embracing their difficulties, traversing their fears and appreciating their emotions. Plurality also allows fashion to come into contact with other disciplines in a transversal way. Fashion and art become pruners of values with an instantaneous, direct and dynamic language that reflects the passing of time and represents all the values of a woman who recognises herself in every aspect of the artistic experience.

The conversations conceived for the Tales & Tellers programme take the listener on a personal introspective journey; artists exchange information about their lives and work, their aspirations and dreams, and their artistic intentions. Contemporary life offers so many changing aspects to reflect on that we all feel like active participants. Behind every story there are individuals, behind every narrative there are moments. Storytelling becomes the transmission of knowledge. The individual nuance gives new understanding to the world. The storyteller becomes the one who narrates life, and interprets it.

Macuga and Dyangani Ose transform the aseptic space of the Palais d’Iéna into an accumulation of multiple everyday experiences, both real and imaginary, that become their own for the artists and the public that interacts with them. A place of dialogue through action and conversation. A discourse that speaks not only of aesthetics but of creativity, of origins and roots, of reasons and thoughts.
