Alessandro Michele unfreezes the imaginific power of the world, restoring a mirror’s feature, which is building aberrations, enchantments, ghosts. Inspired by mirror described in the catoptrics treatises of the 1600s, the Creative Director whose vision keeps exploring space and time, celebrates the beauty of transformation and escape, celebrates clothes as capable of re-enchanting our presence in the world. The pieces for the Exquisite Gucci Collection are indeed optical labs “magical machines that can give birth to fairy tales of metamorphosis and re-enchantment.” Alessandro Michele’s language of freedom led us since 2015 to reconsider the concept of feminine and masculine, and fluidity is still today at the core, as a series of traditional suits are re-elaborated through new forms and twists that transcend genders: its a double breasted blue navy suit to set the tone of the collection as it opens the show. Piece after piece, Gucci sartorial mastery gets contaminated by a special collaboration with Adidas. It’s tradition that meets sportswear codes on 80’s inspired silhouettes. Its not simple juxtaposition of logos, but fusion of shapes and cultural references ( the idea first arrived to him when he saw a photo of Madonna from 1993 wearing a Laura Whitcomb dress), re-imagined with modern and sophisticated angle. Once again we are looking at fashion transformative power, and once again, it’s Alessandro Michele to show us.
“I use the metaphor of the magical mirror to approach the phantasmagorical power of fashion. A sacred power that radiates from the surface of the fabrics”.
