BURBERRY MENSWEAR SS22
by MUSE

The new ravers dance to the notes of psychedelic music of Shpongle in black leather coats.

Burberry Menswear 2022 was designed as a digital event that could be streamed live on the brand’s Instagram profile and website. The show was filmed outdoors against the backdrop of the Millenium Mills in Royal Victoria Docks, East London. The urban, minimalist building was also emphasized by the visual contrast of the soft sandy component on which the models walked.
Tisci bases the concept of the show on feelings of freedom and solidarity. Creating a moment of youthful positivity, the show focuses on the spiritual power and energy of music and movement. Indeed, music plays a major role in the show. The Creative Director pays tribute to the musical duo Shpongle, considered one of the founders of the psychedelic genre, using the track “Strange Planet” as the sound of the show.

I wanted the collection to capture that free spirit of youth and its honest and bold attitude, that sense of experimentation and fluidity. There is a strong feeling of unity but also of individuality.

– Riccardo Tisci

Tisci continues his discourse on the theme stating that “[…] it played an important role in my life, as a soundtrack and source of energy during my youth.” The same youthful energy that surrounds the sand dunes, on which the models walk, alternating with young performers. The looks are fresh and sensual, black leather waistcoats and coats are embellished with rebellious accessories such as fake piercings. The sleeveless garments have asymmetric silhouettes and abstract prints. On sleeveless mesh t-shirts and cotton shirts, the name of the collection, “Universal Passport” appears, like a mantra, an invitation to exploration. The show becomes a collective ritual, where individuals come together to connect and celebrate boundless creativity. A celebration of dynamic youth and the discovery of new and unknown spaces to explore together.
