"SEX" BY MADONNA

2022.11.29

Saint Laurent Rive Droite attends Art Basel in Miami Beach celebrating Madonna with a re-edition of the book Sex. Steven Meisel’s provocative pictures are an invitation to sexual self-expression.

October 20, 1992 saw the release of Erotica, the fifth Madonna’s album, which immediately established itself in the world record market, selling a total of 6 million copies. The project by which she has shocked the whole world is proposed as guide in a path of body’s appropriation and liberation from social stereotypes. Accompanying the record is the release of Sex, a photo book developed entirely by Madonna together with the memorable lens of Steven Meisel. The images, shocking and provocative, are the concrete representation of Popstar’s sexual fantasies, who also explains the concept in explicit texts, freeing and describing her imaginary. The artist here can also be interpreted as intimate representation of an entire female universe’s thought, accompanied by the desire of escape all kinds of limits and constraints imposed by socio-cultural stereotypes.

“I think it will open some people’s minds for the good, and that’s enough,
as far as I’m concerned.”

– Madonna

Saint Laurent Rive Droite, creative space where the brand presents limited edition, performances, events and exhibition, to honor the 30th anniversary of the entire project’s release, takes part in Art Basel in Miami Beach by presenting a re-edition of Sex, curated directly by designer Anthony Vaccarello and Madonna. The French fashion house will publish 800 copies of the book, including a limited number signed by the Popstar. The purchase of Sex reprint will happen trough an auction during the next months and the proceeds will contribute to support the artist’s project, Raising Malawi, which support orphans and needy children in the homonymous African state. The photographs inside the book, which still show today a bold erotic content, are symbol of a sexual revolution and they invite every women to work on the personal expression of their own body. For the occasion Anthony Vaccarello dedicate an exhibition, opened to the public from November 29th to December 4th in a temporary box at Miami beach, where the Steven Meisel’s photographs will be displayed in large-large-format prints. The pictures have made Madonna a true revolutionary icon. She succeeded through her innate erotic elegance to spread a strong and positive message that still today allows to get customs clearance for provocation and sexuality.
