CHANGE OF SPACE

DAYDREAM

2024.04.04

In the new exhibition at Guy Hepner in New York, each piece possesses its own powerful identity, while simultaneously contributing to a diverse narrative of the project.

The Pink Lemonade, a curatorial project founded by Italian artist Francesco Vullo on Instagram in 2016, quickly rose to prominence as one of the most influential artistic platforms on social media, boasting a community of 2.5 million followers from around the world. Born with the mission to democratize art and visual culture, The Pink Lemonade has created a space that not only celebrates artists and cultural phenomena but also makes them accessible to the virtual audience worldwide. After eight years of online curation, The Pink Lemonade presents Daydream as its first physical exhibition in New York: hosted by Guy Hepner, the exhibition features artists whose works reshape our daily experiences, offering viewers new perspectives on reality. Daydream challenges viewers to reconsider their understanding of the world around them, presenting a curated selection of artworks that blend various mediums and techniques, including photography, sculpture, painting, textile art, and installation: starting with Kerry Skarbakka and the series The Struggle to Right Oneself, a thrill that finds no conclusion and extends endlessly in that immortalized moment. The photographer captured these shots portraying suspension in that moment between balance and landing, where contact with solid ground is lost during a fall. From a tree, from a building, in the shower, from a ladder, from a rock. Human existence immortalized in the world’s funniest gesture that becomes a metaphor for life, where in an endless cycle one falls and rises with new responsibilities.

“We can find ordinary objects replicated with precious materials, others interacting with impossible balance situations, or shaping abstract forms resonating with a libidinous physicality. Each piece has its powerful identity, while simultaneously contributing to the diverse narrative of the exhibition.”

Everyday objects are transformed, shedding their conventional meanings and inviting the audience to grasp the boundaries between reality and imagination. Founded in 2000, Guy Hepner specializes in presenting cutting-edge works by both emerging and established artists. In addition to a particular focus on Blue Chip artists, the gallery manages an extensive program of exhibitions for emerging artists: in Daydream, it promises to captivate the audience with its innovative and stimulating pieces, featuring works by artists such as Jeff Muhs, who in his paintings exploits and explores natural physical processes like chaos, gravity, and fluid dynamics; Suzanna Scott, whose practice aims to examine the intersections of existence within the human body; Eliana Marinari, who confronts scientific studies by demonstrating the illusory quality of visual perception, questioning the truth of the visible; and also Francesco Vullo, Andrew Orloski, Nøne Futbol Club, Leeah Joo, Josh Callaghan, Brock Davis, and Kerry Skarbakka.
