A.B.O THEATRON. Art or Life
by MUSE

A.B.O THEATRON. Art or Life is the new exhibition dedicated entirely to Achille Bonito Oliva. A celebration to the historian and art critic; the visionary who reinvented the meaning of curation.

Someone who needs to be recognized as the first one who has been able to destroy old dogmas of art critics, being able to build a new generation of curators as a source of expression within modern art. The exhibition is a summit of pieces of work of sixty years of Oliva personal archive, that is now available to the public for the first time. The exhibition is made by extract of TV settings, art pieces, catalogs, photographs, and any other crucial elements that have been relevant for his career. The exhibition is sponsored by Gucci, which has created a customized uniform for the museum guardians, consider guardian angels of an imaginary garden who guide visitors through a spiritual journey.

Oliva’s work has always be affected by his personal interest in New Avanguards developed in Italy (Transavanguardia Italiana) and the rest of Europe at the end of the 60’s, mixed with his critic to the affirmation art movement of Mannerism, which shifted the central role of the artist into a secondary one as quotation started to replaced the creation. He successfully tried to create a link between Poor and Conceptual art using words and images, behaviors, and communication as a tool, to convey the meaning of the ever-evolving action of art. The exhibition takes place in the museum of contemporary art in a suburb of the city of Torino, in the castle of Rivoli, in the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea. The Concept of the exhibition was created by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Achille Bonito Oliva himself and subsequently developed by Andrea Villani, curation coordinator of the CRR (Centro di Ricerca del Castello di Rivoli). One of the most recent collaborations that is showed in the exhibition is the one created for GucciFest with Harry Styles in conversation with Bonito Oliva. Some others of most iconic workers we can also find Lo Spirato (1968-73) by Luciano Fabro,  Fountain (1917-64) by Marcel Duchamp and Metrocubo d’Infinito (1966) by Michelangelo Pistoletto.
