MUSE TWENTY FANZINE

A MILANESE RESIDENCE

2025.04.07

Text by Lucrezia Sgualdino

Louis Vuitton reopens the doors of Palazzo Taverna, the historic headquarters of the brand, with a completely renovated space where the architectural transformation pays tribute to the city of Milan.

Milanese tradition and Lombard architecture stand out as soon as you cross the arched door that marks the threshold of the new Louis Vuitton boutique. The heart of the new store features an unusual and previously unseen height, replicating the courtyard of a typical casa di ringhiera (balcony house), with railings adorned with cascading greenery. The chosen colours are warm, harmonious, and inviting: they tell the story of the sobriety of Milanese tradition. The ceiling has been reimagined as a glass skylight, with sunlight pouring in and flooding the space, creating pattern, shapes, and shadows that shift as the hours pass. Each room is a unique tale of craftsmanship, visible in the details, the materials selected, and the techniques employed.

The elegance of French savoir-faire once again meets the quality of Italian craftsmanship. A continuous energy full of values, luxury in evolution and experimentation. Every space in the boutique, in addition to the men’s and women’s collections—ranging from ready-to-wear to accessories, and the world of travel—a cornerstone of the maison—features a true collection of contemporary art. The chosen artworks impeccably dialogue with the displayed pieces and the design elements chosen for the rooms.

For the first time, a space entirely dedicated to the Louis Vuitton Home Collections is presented here. On the second floor, design takes center stage with a permanent sales area. The maison’s connection to the world of design dates back to the creation of the first trunks, which revolutionised the art of travel and continue to tell the story and essence of such an important Maison. The innovative spirit has been translated into all the proposals of Objets Nomades, thanks to objects created in limited editions that combine mastery and creativity. The Signature Collection merges contemporary aesthetics with highly recognisable shapes and craftsmanship. It’s the most complete universe, with everything from sofas and armchairs to chairs and tables, each item highlighting the careful selection of materials and introducing personalised choices, from luxury fabrics to fine woods. The world of games returns to tell the eccentric and lively aspect inspired by youth. These become objects to display as unconventional furniture, including pinball machines, chess, and a foosball table. The home textile decorations present attractive graphic and color choices, trays in refined tones, and vases made from precious materials with unique finishes. For Art de la table, black is the protagonist, with designs, shapes, and colours evolving, inspired by global cultures.

Ristorante DaV by Da Vittorio Louis Vuitton.

Within the spaces of Via Montenapoleone 2 and Via Bagutta 1, two other projects emerge: Da Vittorio Café Louis Vuitton and Ristorante DaV by Da Vittorio Louis Vuitton. The first emerges where the central courtyard of Palazzo Taverna once stood. The access is dual, from the entrance colonnade as well as from the main atrium of the store. The restoration has brought new life to the original arches, enhancing their depth. The space is framed by a selection of plants, creating a natural, welcoming, and intimate atmosphere. The restaurant, on the other hand, takes shape from a direct collaboration between the Maison and the Cerea brothers. The architectural identity is contemporary, with refinement evident in every detail. Bold colours contrast with the formal imagery, while the ironic touch of Katherine Bernhardt’s work—featuring the Pink Panther holding a pizza and wearing a pair of Nikes—is softened by the parquet floor made from reclaimed wood from ancient Lombard homes.

In this grand project, one could say that different but essential characteristics of a Maison deeply rooted in fashion history—yet not only that—collide. Authenticity, sincerity, and simplicity create a unique atmosphere that becomes universal. The search for an attention that is never taken for granted. One of the highest examples of absolute beauty and admiration. Heritage and mastery work in the same direction, gathering different stories and experiences. A unique force in expressing values and emotions.
