MUSE TWENTY FANZINE

LA PRIMA NOTTE DI QUIETE

2025.04.07

Text by Lucrezia Sgualdino

Loro Piana and Dimoremilano collaborate together for the first time, resulting in an immersive installation that explores the boundary between reality and cinematic fiction through the intimate spaces of a lived-in home.

The project is engaging and immersive. The idea behind Loro Piana and Dimoremilano’s collaboration was to transport the observer—or rather, the visitor—on a fascinating journey. The real and the plausible merge, losing themselves in one another, without boundaries or limits. The experience is unique, enhanced by captivating and unexpected lights and sounds. The background voices and noises are familiar, allowing those who find themselves within the dark walls of a silent home to recognise parts of themselves in each space. Everything seems to have stopped for an instant, suspended in a moment that feels imperceptible.

Upon entering, one is welcomed by the foyer of an elegant city cinema, featuring dark red velvet curtains, a leopard-print carpet, and a selection of refined furnishings. The apartment to which the visitor is gradually led is inspired by a home from the 1970s and 80s, with both new and classic Dimoremilano elements reimagined for the occasion using Loro Piana Interiors fabrics. Each room gradually lights up, allowing the viewer to take in all the details of a home constructed from refined materials and elements. The staging resembles that of a film, complete with suspense, curiosity, anticipation, and dramatic tension. Expectations are overturned. The twist happens. The home is both a refuge and a place of desolation, a source of protection and a symbol of vulnerability. Every nuance of the materials used conveys a sense of calm. The title itself, La Prima Notte di Quiete, speaks to this contrast between worlds, an exploration of reality and suggestion. Everything feels perfectly real, thanks to the harmonious balance of the furnishings. Diverse objects coexist—just as in real life. Different origins and inspirations allow personal taste to shine through in every thoughtful and personal, never ordinary, choice.

The pieces conceived by the designer duo for Loro Piana are inspired by the locations where the brand originated. The Quarona poufs and coffee tables are made with curved wood bands that embrace padded seats upholstered in Ladakh cashmere and Incas wool and alpaca, or support wooden and glass surfaces that hold decorative or convivial objects. The Valsesia oval table is positioned in the dining room: a lacquered wood top with Altai wool and cashmere fabric, and lacquered wooden legs joined by a polished steel tube that connects at the center for stability. This steel element also appears in the Varallo round bed, with a mohair velvet-covered base and padded bolsters forming the headboard. Metal, along with glass, becomes a new design component that marks an evolution in Loro Piana Interiors furnishings, dialoguing with the most exclusive fabrics. Also surprising are the Locarno cabinets, presented in three different heights and inspired by museum display cases: Altai wool and cashmere fabric is encased between two sheets of mirrored glass or wrapped around the structure for a pleasing tactile experience. The Trivero velvet armchairs and chairs feature satin brass jewel-like details and quilted padded backrests, ensuring comfort with great elegance.

The project brings together two extraordinary realms of expertise: Dimoremilano’s work, deeply rooted in the Milanese design scene and supported by a carefully curated network of artisanal excellence, and the distinctive style of Loro Piana, a symbol of Italian heritage and unmatched understated elegance. The Maison’s goal has always been to tell a story of beauty and authenticity as noble traits, and so, on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2025, a vital and vibrant tribute is made to the country’s manufacturing culture. Everything is envisioned for a personality projected toward the future, within an atmosphere suspended between silence and motion, between light and shadow—of that soft cocoon we all call home.
