Annie Leibovitz’s Stream of Consciousness at Hauser & Wirth Monaco brings together works from across her career in a fluid, non-chronological arrangement.

Annie Leibovitz, Stream of Consciousness

Hauser & Wirth, Monaco

From July 2nd until September 27th, 2025.

Stream of Consciousness, now showing at Hauser & Wirth Monaco, is not your typical retrospective. Annie Leibovitz, whose images have helped define the visual language of modern culture, approaches this show differently-instead of following a timeline, the show opens a visual conversation across decades.

“Exhibitions of my work are usually arranged chronologically. The images tell a story shaped by time.”

-Annie Leibovitz

This quote hangs over the exhibition like a map of her process with works that are grouped by the connections that Leibovitz sees between them instead of by subject or time. We see well-known figures such as Billie Eilish, Salman Rushdie and Ketanji Brown Jackson, alongside less familiar images, including Elvis Presley’s damaged television, Abraham Lincoln’s top hat, Georgia O’Keeffe’s rattlesnake, and photographs of the Frick Collection during renovation. Together, they offer a view of how Leibovitz’s eye moves instinctively, and often unexpectedly through culture and history.

Her debut exhibition in Monaco, shown in the calm space of Hauser & Wirth, gives each image room to breathe and follows her recent induction into the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. And while the accolades range from the Library of Congress to the Royal Photographic Society, this show invites the viewer into the way she sees and to join her on her stream of thought.
